Bringing Hope and Health to Vadodara: The eRUPI Story

In the bustling district of Vadodara, a quiet revolution in healthcare is taking place, powered by innovation and compassion. In 2023, the Growell Welfare Foundation, in partnership with the National Health Authority (NHA), embarked on a pilot program to test the efficiency of the eRUPI digital payment system. The mission was simple yet profound: to ensure that ten beneficiaries receiving care for tuberculosis (TB) could easily access the nutritional support they needed, directly and without delay.
For years, the process of distributing aid could be complex. But with the introduction of eRUPI, we witnessed a seamless, dignified, and instant transfer of support. On a bright morning, the ten beneficiaries received a unique eRUPI voucher directly on their mobile phones in coordination with local health officials from the National TB Elimination Programme. Generated through the secure NHA platform, these digital vouchers were a gateway to health, providing each patient with a clear path to get their essential nutrition kits.
The magic of eRUPI was in its simplicity. With a smile and a tap, each beneficiary visited a local grocery shop, where the owner, accustomed to complex transactions, was delighted by the new system. The shopkeeper simply scanned the QR code on the patient's phone, and the payment was processed in real-time, instantly credited to their account. There was no need for cash, cards, or complicated paperwork. The patients, who often faced challenges in commuting, saved valuable time and effort, while the shopkeeper experienced a quick and secure transaction.
The success of this pilot program in Vadodara has shown that technology can be a powerful tool for social good. It’s more than just a payment system; it’s a commitment to convenience, dignity, and real-time support for those who need it most. The Growell Welfare Foundation is proud to have spearheaded this initiative, bringing health and hope to the community, one voucher at a time.
